SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Tied at four in the bottom of the eighth, Brandon Newton connected for his first home run as an Explorer as Sioux City rallied past St. Paul for a 6-4 win Sunday at Lewis & Clark Park.
Newton finished 3-for-4 and also scored two runs in the victory.
Brian Bistagne blasted his fifth home run of the season in the second inning off of St. Paul starter Robert Coe. Bistagne also finished 3-for-4.
In 102-degree heat, starter Richard Salazar last seven innings, giving up just two runs while striking out seven.
Down 6-4 in the ninth, the Saints tried to put together their second rally in as many days. After pulling within 6-5, a night after giving up five runs, closer Chris Bodishbaugh closed the deal and picked up his 12th save of the season.
Sioux City will look for the series split Monday. First pitch is set for 7:05 at Lewis & Clark Park.
