Monday morning is the first time the world will have a chance to see the man accused of one of the worst mass murders in recent American history. 24-year-old James Holmes will make his first court appearance after being arrested for allegedly shooting 70 people, killing 12 of them at the Batman movie premier in Aurora Colorado. More than 10,000 people gathered in unity Sunday at a vigil to honor the victims of the shooting.

Authorities are trying to stay optimistic in the search for two young Eastern Iowa girls. Over the weekend, investigators said they now believe the disappearance of 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins is an abduction, and that they believe the girls are still alive. The two went missing July 13th. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the girls' disappearance to call police.

Thousands of bicyclists started their trek across Iowa Sunday for the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. The 471 mile RAGBRAI tour from the Missouri to the Mississippi began in Sioux Center this year. The riders will end up in Clinton, Iowa on Saturday.

Cyclists pedaled into Cherokee Sunday afternoon, after a 50 plus mile bike ride from Sioux Center. Cherokee was the first over night stop for riders. Monday morning they head out to Lake View. Riders will pedal through Aurelia, Hanover Village, Schaller, Nemaha, and Sac City on their way.
