Sioux City leaders cast their first vote to create a zoning ordinance for land-based casinos. At the recommendation of the planning and zoning commission, the city council approved a plan to zone the area bounded by the Missouri River, 8th Street, Wesley Parkway and Floyd Boulevard as okay for land casinos. Several council members say they're still open to other suggestions outside of that area. The zoning change needs to be voted on two more times before it can become part of the city ordinance.
Voters in Elk Point, South Dakota will decide August 14th whether to build a new community center. Some say the current 45 year-old facility is too small and outdated. The current proposal from the city and the Recreation Development Association calls for a new building on the existing site, at a cost of about one-million dollars, with some of the work and equipment donated.
Police are still searching for a suspect in the robbery of a South Sioux City, Nebraska bank Monday. Police say a man went into the Bank of the West at 1001 Dakota Avenue a little after noon Monday, said he had a weapon, and demanded money. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. He's described as 5-foot-8-inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, wearing dark sunglasses and a red hat. Anyone with any information should call police.
