Bishop Heelan won their opening round game at the state baseball tournament, knocking off ADM-Adel 5-3 on Tuesday night.
Trailing 3-2 in the fourth, Heelan scored three runs to take the lead. Kale Provost drove in two runs with a single and Tony Myers singled to put the Crusaders in front 4-3.
Heelan added one more run in the fifth. Trent Solsma's sacrifice fly to center brought home Paul Jacobson to give the Crusaders a two run cushion. Jacobson, a South Dakota State recruit, had two hits and an RBI in the first inning.
Bishop Heelan pitcher Tyler Stolen got the complete game victory. The lefty struck out eight batters. ADM pitcher Alec Rash, a second round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies who will attend the University of Missouri, gave up five runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.
The 4th-ranked Crusaders (35-10) will play unranked Decorah (27-10) in the Class 3A semifinals on Friday at 2:00 PM in Des Moines. The 3A championship game is Saturday night at 6:00.
