SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE (KTIV) -

A South Sioux City, Nebraska Educator is being recognized for going above and beyond.

Penny Patrick has received the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence.

We're told it's one of the nation's most prestigious honors for public school educators.

Patrick is one of 38 awardees who will be honored at the NEA Foundation's Salute to Excellence in Education Gala in Washington, DC in February.

The NEA says the awards are given to honor and promote excellence in education and to elevate the profession of teaching.
