SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach held a webinar to update farmers on the current drought.
The two-hour statewide session offered crop and livestock producers a chance to answer question about drought-related issues.
Crop growth, crop disease and insect development, and crop insurance were some of the key focal points.
Joel DeJong, Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist said, "We have a lot of time left in the season and if we stay this warm and this dry for the next six weeks, we're going to have very serious problems on a very high percentage of the crops. But normally when we get into August, we usually get some rainfall, however last year, this is about the time when rain totally quit in Northwest Iowa, we really didn't get any till October and right now the pattern seems to fit that, so we're just going to have to sit and see what happens."
There were 33 different sites set up around the state of Iowa for the webinar.
