The founder of GiGi's Playhouse was in Sioux City visiting one of several centers across the country that makes a difference in the lives of those with Down Syndrome .
Nancy Gianni started the program nine years ago when her daughter was born with Down syndrome.
Since opening up in Chicago, the program now has 14 different centers, including one in Sioux City
GiGi's Playhouse provides teaching and support to those with Down syndrome and to their families.
Gianni say's she is trying to change how people perceive the diagnosis.
Nancy Gianni, founder of GiGi's Playhouse said, "A lot of sympathy as oppose to 'Congratulations, you just had a child.' And it really scared me on what my life was going to be like, and once I brought her home and realized how much more like my other kids, that I wanted to show the whole world the potential of children with Down syndrome and really take away some of that fear associated with the diagnosis."
GiGi's Playhouse is always looking for more volunteers.
