South Sioux City scam centers around utility bills

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) -

South Sioux City, Nebraska officials are warning of scam that's using the city's utility office to try to get you to give up personal information.

South Sioux City residents have contacted the office to say that they've been getting calls in which the caller states their utility bill is delinquent.

The person is then asked to give a credit card number or money order to keep the account from being shut off.

South Sioux City officials said they don't call their utility customers about past due accounts.

If it were real you'd be notified by mail.

It's an important reminder to never give personal information like credit card numbers over the phone.
