SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Because it's so dry, several northwest Iowa counties have been added to the list of those with burn bans. Right now, more than half of Iowa is under fire restrictions.
Friday, Cherokee, Crawford, O'Brien and Woodbury county joined the list.
Clay, Calhoun, Lyon, Plymouth and Pocahontas already had burn bans in place. That means you need a permit from a fire chief to have a controlled burn or you can be cited or arrested
Woodbury County's burn ban takes effect Saturday morning at eight. Open burning will not be allowed.
Woodbury County Emergency Management Director Gary Brown says while parts of the county received some rain, the fire risk is high .
Brown says the area will have to see substantial rain over a long period of time before the ban will be lifted.
