SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
As Charlene Jorgensen finishes her afternoon of work at Morningside College, she can't wait for the start of the Olympic Games.
"I'm just so excited. Beijing was so exciting and I can't wait to see what London's going to do," said
Simply put, she just can't get enough of the competition.
"I love the Olympics, and I love the United States and I will stay up until awful times in the morning to watch everything," said Jorgensen.
She's not alone. Billions of people are expected to watch the games. The common goal of the athletes makes it fun for so many.
"Just that competitiveness, they all want the medal," said Tressa Miller of Sioux City.
Jordan Gentry was enjoying an afternoon of pick-up hoops in anticipation of the games starting. He's hoping the U.S. brings home gold again.
"You only get one chance to see all of the great players go at it for our country, so it's a good thing to see," said Gentry.
Count Kelsey Tobin among those that are disappointed the Olympics will be missing a few staples, like softball and baseball, but she'll still be watching.
"Turn it on every day, when I'm not at work or busy with other things," said Tobin.
"I'm looking forward to gymnastics probably, swimming and diving, and volleyball. I love to watch volleyball," said Ashley Brewer of Sioux City
Kylie Kneifl was so excited about the Olympics that she decided to throw a party after work for the opening ceremony.
"Then we realized it was tonight and not last night, so we're going to do it (again) tonight," said Kneifl.
Sports bars are getting geared up too, with walls of flat screen televisions devoted to Olympic coverage.
"It's just amazing to see how people are at their primes," said Gentry. "And people who are just over-exceedingly good at what they do."
KTIV and the NBC network will have nearly two weeks of coverage from London.
