Orange City man finds historic Bible while renovating home

ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Sometimes, you can find treasures in some rather unusual places. A Northwest Iowa home has been holding onto an important part of the past for generations.

Brent Koops has been remodeling his Orange City home since late spring. It's meant long days, dealing with electrical and some physical issues throughout.

Along the way, he's found some things left behind, like an old screwdriver.  About one week ago, while he was breaking down insulation, he knew there was something different.

"Just particle insulation, just falling off everywhere. Then, I just kind of through the dust saw something that wasn't normal," said Koops.

He'd found a Bible printed in Dutch. It came over from the Netherlands in the early to mid 19th century. Koops didn't know what to do with his discovery, so he gave it to a local genealogist.

Coming up tonight after the Olympics, we'll tell you more about what the discovery means. Plus, you'll learn where that Bible is now.
