Trial date set for Arevalo-Martinez in February shooting of Norfolk woman in her home

The man accused of shooting a Norfolk, Nebraska woman in the head is set for trial.  34-year old Carlos Arevalo-Martinez was in Madison County District Court for a pre-trial hearing Monday morning.

Madison County attorney Joe Smith said that he envisions a two to three day trial for Arevalo-Martinez who is accused of shooting Edna Gutierrez at her Norfolk home in February.  Gutierrez continues to recover from the shooting at a facility in Omaha.

Arevalo-Martinez was arrested two days after the shooting after an hours-long standoff with police in Stanton, Nebraska.  His trial is scheduled to begin September 4th.  He remains jailed in Madison on $1 million bond.
