WASHINGTON, D.C (KTIV) -
For U.S. Senator Charles Grassley, of Iowa, a picture is worth 1,000 words.
Monday, Grassley e-mailed a picture to reporters. It was a lunch of barbeque beef brisket, ribs, and sausage the Republican said he enjoyed, on Monday.
The picture follows the flap caused by an article in a USDA newsletter, which encouraged its employees to boycott meat on Mondays.
Last week, Grassley spoke out against the move. So did the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. The USDA withdrew the initiative. But, not before PETA-- the people for the ethical treatment of animals-- began taking "bets" on how long it would take Grassley to, quote "succumb to heart disease, diabetes or cancer, or some other meat-related disease."
