Mid American Energy warns customers of email scam

Posted:

Mid American Energy is warning the public about an email scam that may target its employees or customers.

The scam comes in an email sent from a Hotmail account with the name 'Rachel' and claims it's from Employee Benefits Center, LLC. The scam email advises the recipient to claim a $1,000 pre-paid Visa gift card as a thank you from Mid American. The email asks recipients to click on a link to claim the prize and then it asks for personal information.

Mid American says the scammers are using social media sites to gather personal information, such as a person's full name, employer, and email address to target people to make the scam seem more legitimate.

Mid American says the emails are not from the company.  It advises any customers who receive a suspicious call or email claiming to be from Mid American should contact Mid American or law enforcement.

Customers can call Mid American Energy at 888-427-5632 if they need help with the suspicious emails.
