PIERRE, S.D. (KTIV) -
The South Dakota Supreme Court will expedite a hearing on the appeal of Hyperion's air quality permit for the $10-billion oil refinery it plans to build in Union County.
That word comes from personnel in the clerk's office, in Pierre.
The decision means Hyperion will offer oral arguments, on the campus of the University of Sioux Falls, on Oct. 3rd at 10:00 am. The Dallas-based company asked for an expedited hearing because delays and litigation have prevented them from securing money from investors to move forward.
Hyperion's opponents, including Citizens Opposed To Oil Pollution, Save Union County, and the Sierra Club claim the refinery would emit too much pollution and hurt the quality of life in the area. They'll have their say during oral arguments at 11:00 am that same morning.
Hyperion has to meet a March deadline to begin construction of the refinery.
