UNDATED (KTIV) -
The head of the company that owns the Argosy casino, in Sioux City, says he's prepared to "fight to the death" to keep operating the gaming boat anchored along the Missouri River.
The comments come from Penn National Gaming CEO Peter Carlino in a story posted to the website gaming-today-dot-com. Writer Phil Hevener described Carlino tone as "polite", but also wrote that when Carlino spoke to analysts recently, there was no mistaking his "astonishment, even anger," at a move by Iowa's Racing and Gaming Commission to start taking applications for company's wanting to create a land-based casino.
Penn says it will bid for the land-based casino license. But, Carlino added that, quote "the idea that you would pull a successful license from a high performing operator is madness."
The IRGC says it will take gaming license applications from nonprofits, and operators, until November 1st. On January 10th, applicants will present their proposals to the IRGC. On March 26th, the commission will head to Sioux City to visit applicants' potential casino sites. On April 18th, the IRGC will choose the nonprofit and operator victors.
