Ray Serrano crosses home plate after hitting a home run in Sioux City's win over Gary on Tuesday.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- -
Adrian Martinez hit a two-run, walk off home run in the 11th inning to give the Sioux City Explorers a 6-4 win over Gary-Southshore in the opening game of their three game series at Lewis and Clark Park. It was the first home run of the season for Martinez.
After three scoreless innings, Gary took the lead with two runs in the fourth off of X's starting pitcher Ty Marotz.
Sioux City (31-39) cut the lead in half when catcher Ray Serrano hit a long home run to left field. Serrano's eighth homer of the year made it 2-1.
Both teams scored runs in the sixth inning. After the Railcats increased their lead to 3-1, Serrano scored for the second time on an RBI ground out by Ryan Priddy to make it 3-2.
The Railcats added one more run in the eighth off of Marotz, who pitched 7 2/3 innings while giving up 11 hits.
Sioux City scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. Wally Backman, Junior's RBI single made it 4-3. Peter Barrows hit a two-out double to bring in Backman and send the game to extra innings.
