NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) -
There's never been a shortage of football talent in Northeast Nebraska and an event announced Wednesday is designed to showcase that talent.
The Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic is an all-star game strictly for the graduating seniors of the 59 high schools of Northeast Nebraska. It will benefit the sports medicine departments of the title sponsor, Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. The game is a brainchild of a committee of area coaches and athletic directors who say the game will be the ultimate talent showcase for Northeast Nebraska football.
"We have outstanding football here each and every year, said Norfolk Catholic football coach Jeff Bellar. "To be able to get these kids together and play in an all-star game we think will be a great thing for the athletes, a great thing for Northeast Nebraska and a great thing for football."
Organizers think the Classic will also allow a lot of eight and six-man football players that don't get much exposure in larger Shrine Bowls the chance to show what they can do on a big stage.
The first Northeast Nebraska All-Star Football Classic will take place June 8th, 2013 at Norfolk's Memorial Field.
