Spirit Lake will make a bid to win Blue Zone status 

Spirit Lake will make a bid to win Blue Zone status. Thursday morning, Blue Zone officials will be in Spirit Lake at Camp Foster YMCA to hear the city's presentation. Spirit Lake is one of 10 communities in the running, but only three will be chosen. The Blue Zones initiative was started last year by Iowa Governor Terry Branstad as a way to make the state healthier.

Storm Lake, IA teen in critical condition after being hit by train

A 19-year old Storm Lake, Iowa man is in critical condition after being struck by a train while walking along the railroad tracks. Deon Parkhurst was flown to Mercy Medical Center after being struck in Storm Lake Wednesday afternoon. Police say Parkhurst suffered multiple injuries when he was hit by the Canadian National freight train.

UPDATE: Many in Sioux City not "chicken" to show Chick-fil-A support

A big show of support for Chick-fil-A. Several hundred people waited up to an hour to buy lunch at the restaurant at Southern Hills Mall Wednesday. It was a scene repeated at Chick-fil-A restaurants across the country as a show support for the company president who came under fire for endorsing traditional marriage.

ArtSplash recruiting volunteers for Labor Day celebration

The Sioux City Art Center is putting out the call for volunteers. The center says it needs at least 350 people to donate their time for ArtSplash. It takes place Labor Day weekend and will be held again this year at Grandview Park. If you'd like to volunteer you can find the form on the city's website.
