Spirit Lake will make a bid to win Blue Zone status

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) -

Siouxland already has one and Spirit Lake, Iowa will try to make it two.

The community is presenting its proposal to win Blue Zone status. Thursday morning, Blue Zone officials will be in Spirit Lake at Camp Foster YMCA to hear the presentation. Spirit Lake is one of 10 communities in the running, but only three will be chosen.

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad started the Blue Zone initiative last year as a way to make the state healthier.

In May, Spencer, Iowa was selected as a blue zone community in the first round of designations.
