Spirit Lake, Iowa makes a pitch for Blue Zone status. It is one of ten Iowa communities in the running for the designation. On Thursday, Spirit Lake officials presented their case to Blue Zone specialists. The Blue Zones initiative was started last year by Governor Terry Branstad as a way to make the state healthier. Spirit Lake is hoping to make it past the next round of consideration in October.
