LONDON, England (KTIV) -- -
Sheldon, Iowa, native A.G. Kruger competed in his third Olympics on Friday.
The former Morningside College hammer thrower was 32nd in the '04 Games, and 27th in '08 in Beijing. Kruger improved in the standings, but missed out on qualifying for the finals.
Kruger finished 12th in his group and 25th overall among the 41 competitors. But only the top twelve advanced to Sunday's final.
The 33-year-old scratched on his first and third throws, but heaved the hammer over 72 meters on his second throw. That's 236 feet, short of his personal best of 260 feet, which he set back in 2004.
Kruger was about nine feet short of the last qualifier. Kibwe Johnson of the United States did advance, finishing fifth.
