SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Crayons, clothes, and Kleenexes are just a few of the items local seniors helped pack for Sioux City students.
Northern Hills Retirement seniors donated money along with area businesses to help fulfill school supply needs.
Sioux City schools counselors hand picked kids who needed a little extra boost to start the school year.
Seniors were excited to help the students with these basic needs.
"These are very active members of our community. They've been involved in Rotary, they've been involved in church circles, always, always giving. And even though time goes on, it's important for them to continue to give and this gives them an excellent opportunity to be part of the Siouxland community," Sheryl Ford, a Senior Living Counselor at Northern Hills Retirement Community.
The seniors were able to pack 83 book bags for students.
