X's lose series opener to Winnipeg in extra innings

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- -

The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored a run in the tenth inning Friday to defeat the Explorers 5-4.

Chris Roberson led off the top of the tenth inning with a triple and scored on a single by Yondell DeCaster to give Winnipeg the win in the first game of a three game series at Lewis and Clark Park.

The Goldeyes took a 4-0 lead after five innings thanks to two solo home runs by Josh Massola. The Explorers would come back and score two runs in the six inning on a two-run single by Ray Serrano. Sioux City would tie the game in the seventh inning scoring two runs to knot the game at 4-4.

Ryan Priddy would drive home the first run on a double, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Brandon Newton would tie the contest with a sacrifice fly that scored Priddy to tie the game at 4-4.

Chuck Lukanen in relief of starter Jason Jarvis, who pitched nine innings, pitched the tenth inning and took the loss. Brian Beuning pitch three inning in relief to pick up the victory for Winnipeg.

The second game of the three-game series will be Saturday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 7:05
