Alain Quijano pitched seven and a third innings of one run baseball, and the X's provided plenty of offense in a 5-2 win over Winnipeg Saturday night at Lewis & Clark Park.
Wally Backman and Peter Barrows both collected two hits in the win for the X's.
Sioux City got to Winnipeg starter Dexter Carter in the first inning and never looked back.
With one out, Backman singled and Barrows narrowly missed a home run, but wound up with a double, putting runners on second and third.
After walking Kris Sanchez to load the bases, Ray Serrano blooped the first pitch he saw into left-center, driving in Backman.
Yusuke Inoguchi laced the first pitch of his at-bat down the third base line for a two-run single, putting the X's on top 3-0.
Sanchez made it a 4-0 game in the fifth with an RBI double. Backman drove in Sioux City's fifth run of the game with a single in the seventh.
Winnipeg didn't go down quietly, scoring a run in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.
With two runners on, Yurendell de Caster represented the tying run, but closer Chris Bodishbaugh struck him out to end the game.
Sioux City will look for the their second series win in a row Sunday night in the finale. First pitch between the X's and Goldeyes is set for 6:05 at Lewis & Clark Park.
