Man drowns after riding horse into water near Vermillion bridge

A rural Maskell, Nebraska man drowns in the Missouri River while horseback riding. The Dixon County sheriff's office says 45 year-old Justin Lineberry and his horse went underwater at a spot where a sandbar dropped off. It happened Sunday near the Newcastle-Vermillion bridge. Search and rescue teams were called in. Lineberry's body was recovered a short time later.

UPDATE: victim talks about dodging bullets on bike ride

Two Sioux City men are arrested after gunshots were fired at two men riding bicycles on Highway 12 early Saturday morning. The bikers say an SUV slowed down and those inside starting firing bullets over their heads. The men took cover in a ditch and called 911. A short time later, police arrested two men in the SUV. 22-year old Terry Lee Oliver is charged with attempted murder and 20-year old Cesar Gonzalez is being held as a material witness.

Norfolk, NE city council to hear public comments on proposed salvage yard

A public hearing will be held Monday night about a proposed scrap metal salvage yard in Norfolk, Nebraska. The proposal includes a large shredder as part of the facility that would be operated by Alter Norfolk Corporation. The Norfolk Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for the scrap yard last month, but two men who live near it are appealing that, citing noise, pollution and potential danger.

Same faces, different places for Ponca, Nebraska students

Folks in Ponca, Nebraska got a look at their brand new high school. The 7,200 square foot facility replaces the old Ponca School built in 1917 and features a new fine arts wing, gym and sports complex. It took four tries at the polls before voters approved the new school. It's been under construction for nearly two and a half years and will be open for students when classes resume this month.
