Downtown Partners wants casino to compliment, not compete, with downtown business

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Monday, city leaders gave second round approval to a zoning ordinance to put a casino in the downtown.

Second to the location, the design of the casino is also a question.  Will it include a hotel?

Officials of at least one downtown hotel have said they'd like to see the casino use the rooms that Sioux City already has.

Downtown Partners says their goal is to find an operator that can compliment, not compete with the hotels, restaurants, and other businesses that exist.

"With four hotels downtown, obviously we do have enough we feel to support what we currently do, so to see a casino come into that would be basically hoping that they work with them instead of adding to," said Regan Cote.

Cote says she hasn't seen any of the proposals.

The city council plans to meet with MRHD to make sure the option they chose will put the casino downtown.
