SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
It's been so hot this summer, and a popular way to get cool is, of course, taking a dip in the pool. That's not always possible for our canine companions.
But this swimming' hole has gone to the dogs.
"Once the pools close, we open Leeds pool for a Pooch Paddle. This is our eighth summer doing it," Eric Griffith, Interim Recreation Supervisor for Sioux City said.
While it's a howl for some, not every pooch dives right in.
"It's just been a really long summer for pets and for people so it's kinda nice for pets to get their turn in the water," Griffith said.
It's a family affair, with man's best friend and their human, teaming up for some exercise.
"We thought we'd try it to see if it would cool him down. We went to the dog park yesterday so today we're trying something different with the pool," Tasha Berthusen, a dog owner said.
Fun in the sun can be good for everybody, especially on a hot day like today. But what you wouldn't realize is that pool days for the dogs are actually a big relief after a hot summer like this one.
"I just think that it's so hot out, getting them out in the fresh air and getting them to swim is just really good, get them interacting with the other dogs," Abby McCormick, a dog owner said.
And, getting them to shake off the dog days of summer.
The Pooch Paddle for large dogs is Tuesday, August 7th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Leeds pool.
Make sure to bring along your dog's city tags so the staff knows it's safe to let them in the water.
