Onawa, Iowa teacher faces multiple drug charges after search

ONAWA, Iowa (KTIV) -

A northwest Iowa school teacher has been placed on administrative leave after she admitted to possessing a substance discovered during a search warrant

Karen Bartelson, 43, of Blencoe, Iowa is charged with possession of marijuana, meth and drug paraphernalia after authorities executed a search warrant in Onawa July 21st.

Court documents allege when authorities searched a home in 22-thousand block of Dogwood Loop they found marijuana, methamphetamine and straw in a coin purse. Bartelson later told police the weed and purse belonged to her.

The West Monona Community School District website lists Bartelson as a fourth grade teacher at Central Elementary School.

She is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 20.
