SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
There isn't just a shortage in nursing, it's all across the medical field.
Officials say as more of the Healthcare Mandate goes into effect, they think more people will be using healthcare and medical services earlier, instead of waiting until it's an emergency.
This could save healthcare providers and taxpayers money, if it prevents emergencies.
But it could still put an additional strain on the healthcare system.
"That with more covered lives there will be an increased demand on healthcare service providers across the spectrum. Preventative, acute, therapeutic, rehabilitative all areas of the healthcare delivery system will feel, I think an increased demand," Mike Stiles, Chancellor at St. Luke's College said.
The women's health part of the mandate started this month and Stiles says he doesn't know the full impact yet.
The large portions of rest of the Healthcare Mandate start in 2014.
