NEWELL, Iowa (KTIV) -

Emergency crews were called to a fatal accident in Buena Vista County, Iowa on Tuesday.

It happened about three miles east of Newell on Highway seven.

Sheriff's officials say about 9:20 a.m., a car driven by 24-year-old Jonathon Ohrtman of Newell, Iowa crossed the center line and collided head on with a semi-truck.

Ohrtman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the semi-truck driver, 32-year-old Robert Bainbridge of Albert City, was hurt and taken by car to a medical facility.

While responding to the crash, authorities say the heat became a problem for them.

Several of the firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion including one Newell firefighter who was taken to the hospital for treatment.
