NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) -
National Night Out festivities in Norfolk, Pierce and Madison, Nebraska Tuesday night brought out hundreds of people eager to learn more about their community and get to know their neighbors.
With the warm weather, each of the events had something special to do with water.
In Norfolk, local firefighters helped youngsters play a water barrel game with small fire hoses.
Meanwhile in Pierce, an inflatable waterslide was a big hit and Madison featured a game with squirt guns.
Along with the fun, also came education and awareness.
Norfolk Police say residents play an important role in fire, crime and drug prevention.
"We don't know. We're only so many officers and law enforcement in community. I mean, we need the eyes and ears of everyone in the community to be calling us when the suspicion something or they know something about any criminal activity or drugs or DUI," said Capt. Leon Chapman, Norfolk Police Division.
Other highlights in Norfolk included drug dog and seat belt demonstrations.
In Pierce, State Senator Kate Sullivan paid a visit.
Besides the fire trucks and ambulances on display in Madison, Captain America and the Madison high school dragon mascot could be seen mingling with the crowd.
Target stores are a nationwide sponsor of National Night Out and had team members at each of the events.
