3 Siouxlanders to receive life-saver awards from Governor Branstad

DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad will honor three Siouxlanders for saving the lives of others Friday morning.

Cameron and Riley Pierce of Sioux City will be given a Meritorious Service award.

In November, authorities say a semi truck was switching lanes on Highway 75 in Plymouth County when it hit a pay loader -- causing it to tip onto its side.

The semi went into the ditch and burst into flames. Riley and Cameron saw the accident and rescued the drivers of both vehicles. They were able to give them first aid until medical personnel arrived.

Rodney Stevenson of Milford Iowa will also be honored with the Lifesaving with Valor award.

In May, Stevenson was working in a mobile home park when he heard someone yell "fire."

Stevenson went into the burning home--broke out a window and helped two adults that were trying to escape.

After getting them out, he also heard a baby crying. So he found a different way in and was also able to rescue the baby.

Unfortunately, a two-year-old did not survive the fire. Governor Branstad will present the awards during a ceremony at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines at 10:00 a.m. KTIV will have a crew in Des Moines for the announcement. Look for updates in the morning right on our homepage!
