3 Siouxlanders to receive life-saver awards from Governor Branstad

Three Siouxlanders will be honored Friday at the Iowa State Fair for helping save lives. Governor Terry Branstad will present the Meritorious Service Award to Cameron and Riley Pierce of Sioux City. When a semi collided with a pay loader on Highway 75 near Hinton last November, they came to their aid until medical personnel arrived. Also, Rodney Stevenson of Milford will receive the Lifesaving with Valor award. In May, he went into a burning mobile home and helped rescue two adults and a baby.

Drought monitor map shows conditions have worsened in Iowa and Nebraska

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map shows conditions have worsened in the Corn Belt states of Iowa and Nebraska. The map shows extreme drought has spread further into the western half of Iowa and covers all but a small section of southeast Nebraska, where severe drought is occurring. The amount of Iowa in extreme or exceptional drought more than doubled in the past week.

Margaritas, manicures, and massages at Sioux City Convention Center

Siouxland women are treated to a night of margaritas, manicures and massages. The annual fundraiser for the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence took place at the Sioux City Convention Center. Organizers say they are really counting on community support this year due to low federal funding. They say the event also raises awareness about the services of the CSADV.
