DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -

For the first time, the winner of the Iowa State Fair's Big Boar contest isn't from Iowa.

Reggie, a hog raised near Austin, Ind., earned the honor Thursday on the opening day of the state fair in Des Moines.

The Des Moines Register reports that Reggie weighed in at 1,335 pounds, easily topping the heftiest Iowa hog. That was Fred Hoiboar, a 1,079-pound hog named after Iowa State University basketball coach Fred Hoiberg.

Swine Barn manager Ernie Barnes says he doesn't mind that a hog from outside the state won the 37-year-old Iowa competition. He says "Iowa is welcome to everybody."

Reggie's owner, Rick Stockdale, noted Iowa's status as the nation's top hog producer, saying "It's a thrill and an honor to win in the capital of hogs."
