WEST POINT, Neb. (KTIV) -
A Northeast Nebraska county receives a special designation for its efforts in the ag industry.
Governor Dave Heineman presented Cuming County with the Livestock Friendly designation.
While in West Point Friday he said that Cuming County is number one in terms of livestock production in the state of Nebraska.
This is something that should be celebrated and it sends a powerful message that they are open for business.
"It's really important because they've been a leader in livestock production for well over 50, 75 years. I'm proud of this community for what they do every day. They understand that agriculture is the number one industry and when ag is doing well so does Main Street Nebraska," Governor Dave Heineman, Nebraska said.
Heineman says this designation isn't just about farmers and ranchers but it's also about the entire food processing cycle and all of the associated industries that depend on agriculture.
