Transmission line will need Siouxland converter station
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
That nearly $2 billion transmission line, called the "Rock Island Clean Line," will need a $250 million converter station.
Clean Line Energy Partners tells us it will be here, inside the Center Township of O'Brien County. The company is looking at two sites there.
Originally, it was thought the station could be placed in Woodbury County.
The company is looking at two sites inside the township.
They say the converter station will take in AC energy, produced by wind turbines, and turn it into DC energy. The converted power will then be sent down the proposed line, 500 miles, to the Chicago area.
