ONAWA, Iowa (KTIV) -

A Sioux City man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of vehicular homicide stemming from a crash last November near Mapleton, Iowa.

28-year-old Lenley Schofield Jr. filed the written plea in Monona County District Court this week. Prosecutors say Schofield was driving on Iowa Highway 141 November 21st when his car collided with an oncoming pickup truck. Schofield's passenger, 29-year old Robert Palmer of Mapleton, died later.

The Iowa State Patrol said at the time that Schofield's car swerved across the center line and was struck in the passenger-side door by the oncoming truck. The driver of the pickup was not hurt. Schofield was injured and taken by ambulance to the hospital in Onawa.

Court documents say Schofield was driving recklessly or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
