SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Four years ago, Barack Obama won Iowa by 9-points, and the presidential election.
Oh, how times have changed says former Iowa Republican Party chair Matt Strawn. Matt Strawn, GOPAC-Iowa Chairman says, "It's remarkable that , here, in the state that launched Barack Obama, that he has to spend three days trying to rekindle the magic that is gone."
In Sioux City, Thursday, Strawn pointed out that registered Republicans now outnumber Democrats in Iowa. Matt Strawn, GOPAC-Iowa Chairman says, "By any metric he's in real trouble here. Iowans are willing to make a change from how they voted four-years ago."
When asked why, Strawn pointed to the nation's growing debt, the passage of Obamacare, and the $700-billion, he says, the president is raiding from Medicare to pay for health care reform. That said, this election may come down to Iowa. Matt Strawn, GOPAC-Iowa Chairman says, "We may not be as large as Ohio, or as Florida, or as Virginia. But, when you look at the electoral map, if you take Iowa's six electoral votes out of the president's column, his math to get to 270 gets very difficult."
Translation? Expect to see a lot more of Barack Obama, and Mitt Romney, in Iowa, in the next two-and-a-half months.
Strawn now leads GOPAC-Iowa, an organization dedicated to educating and electing the next generation of Republican leaders. Strawn was the keynote speaker at an event organized by Morningside College professor Sam Clovis.
