ROYAL, Iowa (KTIV) -
Some northwest Iowa school kids have a new place to learn and play outdoors.
The ribbon was cut Thursday night on the new Nature Learning Center for the Clay Central-Everly School District.
It will serve the educational and recreational needs of children ages preschool through 6th grade, and has been incorporated into the playground at the elementary school in Royal, Iowa.
Constructed almost entirely by community volunteers, the Nature Learning Center includes climbing platforms, a sand table, art easels and a bridge. The idea is to get kids outdoors and active.
Fundraising has been going on since April and grade school students raised about $5,500 through cookie dough sales.
The Nature Learning Center is open to the whole community and the public is encouraged to use it.
