YANKTON, S.D. (KTIV) -
Proposals are again being accepted from companies wanting to restore service on an 82-mile long abandoned railroad line from Napa Junction near Yankton to Platte, South Dakota.
In 2006 the state railroad board agreed to sell the line to Wagner Native Ethanol for $1.5-million, but the company had trouble coming up with the money.
It's estimated it will cost about $30-million to restore the rail line. South Dakota Railroad Board chairman Chet Groseclose says there's an opportunity for economic development.
The deadline for proposals is October 1st.
South Dakota bought the rail line after the Milwaukee Road declared bankruptcy in the late 1970s.
