SPENCER, Iowa (KTIV) -

One word describes the 2012 Spencer Tigers. Process.

"We really focus on process oriented goals," Head Coach Jim Tighe said.  "You know, we're not going to say we're going to beat this team or go to the playoffs or anything like that, but what can we do each day to get better."

And head coach Jim Tighe's message is trickling down.

"We're all committed," senior Austin Allen said.  "We all buy into what we're doing."

What they're doing is working. After going winless in 2010, the Tigers picked up five wins in 2011 and advanced to the second round of the 3-A playoffs.

"When you have a group of guys that are really buying into what you're doing in the weight room, on the practice field, and hustling," Tighe said.  "It's amazing how things can really turn around."

The Tigers are going in the right direction, hungry for more.

A potent offense returns from a Spencer team that just got knocked out of last years 3-A playoffs by Harlan. This years team-wants to go where the Tigers have never gone.

"We like to be the underdogs, we like to going into every game with nothing to lose," Allen said.  "We play better with no pressure. We like to go in there and just play all out."

Taking it one day at a time.

"We have a lot of guys who bring a lot of energy out here and make sure we always remember to try and get better every day," senior Blake Altenhofen said.
