SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Sioux City North High School students and staff are grieving, Monday, after the loss of a student who died in a weekend accident.
School counselors told students and teachers that sophomore Alexi Vaul, was killed when she was thrown from the bed of a pickup truck on Saturday.
Counselors were available Monday for any student that needed help dealing with the loss.
Because everyone deals with loss differently, counselors say they have talked to school faculty about the signs of anxiety and depression.
"For many students, this might be their first experience with death so it's really difficult for them to understand what's going on. So we do try to educate them about, some of their feelings are very normal and it's important for them to go through this process, even though it's difficult," Jeaneite Lorenz, a North High counselor said.
Counselors did have sessions with students, on Monday and they want students to know they are always available to help.
There's a memorial fund set up in Alexi's name at Telco Triad Community Credit Union.
You can make a donation to the "Alexi Vaul Fund" at any Telco Triad location.
