WAKEFIELD, Neb. (KTIV) -
Fire broke out at a northeast Nebraska poultry plant, Monday afternoon.
About 3:30pm crews were called to Big Red Farms, which is also known as the Michael Foods operation northeast of Wakefield on Highway 35.
The fire chief says dried poultry waste, or chicken manure, caught fire inside a building and spread to the wood walls of the structure. He believes it was spontaneous combustion.
No one was hurt. Damage to the building was minimal.
