WINNIPEG, Manitoba (KTIV) -- -
The Winnipeg Goldeyes (54-40) and the Sioux City Explorers (41-53) passed the lead back and forth five times on Tuesday at Shaw Park, but in the end the Goldeyes pulled out a 5-3 win over the X's.
Josh Mazzola had two extra-base hits for Winnipeg. He homered in the second inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the eighth inning.
The Explorers had no answer for Brian Beuning, who kept runners off the base paths. Sioux City managed just two hits off of the Goldeyes' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his three innings of work.
Kaohi Downing improved to 4-2 on the year by picking up the win for Winnipeg. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered one hit.
Aaron Correa (2-3) took the loss for Sioux City. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked four, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
