Harkin pitches plan to avoid "retirement crisis"

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

U-S Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa says the country is facing a "retirement crisis".

And, the Democrat was on the Western Iowa Tech campus in Sioux City to tell retirees what he hopes to do about it.

Harkin talked about a report on retirement that he recently field.

It includes a proposal that would provide universal access to privately-run and innovative pension plans.

The plan, called "Universal, Secure, and Adaptable Retirement Funds," would be a hybrid-part pension, part 401-K.

Tom Harkin, Senator said, "At anytime, your fund goes with you and it's invested professionally and fiduciary responsibility."

Harkin is traveling around Iowa, this week, talking about the retirement plan.
