SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Preventing litter wouldn't just keep the city looking good, it would also save taxpayers money.

Sioux City launched a campaign to educate people on the cost of littering this week.

As part of the effort the city has put up billboards around town in English and Spanish reminding people not to litter.

The city's environmental analyst, says Sioux City spent about $70,000 on litter removal last year.

They are reminding people to pick up debris on the ground now before snow comes down, and buries it.
