SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Want to see the president in person? Thursday morning, hundreds waited in line to get tickets to do just that.
The line outside Obama's Morningside campaign office snaked down the street, and around the corner. It's one of two spots where some waited for more than an hour to pick up free tickets to the president's Sioux City stop.
Folks are going for mixed reasons.
"I want to see him… because I believe in him," said Susan Fenceroy.
"I thought I'd come and make an honest effort to go out and vote this year, and get everyone's view on everything," said Morningside Student Jescy Rodriguez.
The pink passes were given out on a first come, first served basis. Campaign officials couldn't say how many were up for grabs, but they're expecting a big turn out for the event, Saturday.
"I think there will be several thousand that'll show up. That's my guess," said Obama Volunteer Pat Hammerstrom.
Woodbury County's democrats are calling all the interest in Obama's stop an early indicator of the party's pull in this year's election.
"This testifies to the level of enthusiasm for this candidate, Barack Obama, and the campaign in general. This is a great thing for the US," said Chair of the Woodbury County Democratic Party Greg Guelcher.
Guelcher expects the president's speech will focus on healthcare and, because it's at Morningside College, education.
The Chair of the Woodbury County Republicans declined comment.
Campaign officials say the president will speak on the Hilker campus mall at Morningside College Saturday night at 6:30. The gates will open at 4:30.
The last time a sitting US president spoke to a crowd in Sioux City was November of 2004. George W. Bush held a campaign rally at the Tyson Events Center. He came back to Northwest Iowa two years later in 2006 for an event in Le Mars.
