SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Sioux City has officially re-applied to become a Blue Zone Community in Iowa.  Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield says 12 communities, with more than 10,000 people, applied in the second round of the Blue Zones project.  Sioux City is the only community in the Northwest part of the state to apply in this round.

The Blue Zones Project is a cornerstone of Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative, which is committed to making Iowa the healthiest state in the nation by 2016.  Sioux City applied in the first round of the project, but was not selected as a demonstration site.
