South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers are out in force as the Labor Day holiday weekend arrives.
The agency is conducting a "saturation patrol" involving nearly all officers to encourage safe driving. It's the end of a summer-long campaign aimed at cracking down on drunken driving, speeding and seatbelt violations.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard also has issued a statement urging South Dakota motorists to use care when traveling this weekend.
AAA South Dakota says about 69,000 state residents will travel 50 miles or more this holiday weekend, up 3 percent from last year
